I’m not sure that I would call myself a materialistic person. I mean I love to online shop, but I do not thrive on luxury items or expensive clothes or gadgets and such. Maybe I’m in the average category of being materialistic, idk lol. Anyway, I am sure we all have those few things in our lives that we could not get by without. And I am not talking about sentimental/emotional stuff like family and loved ones or things like that because obviously that comes before all else. I’m talking objects, food, little stuff like that. I can’t decide on an order so this list is not in any specific order. I am just going to write what comes to mind.
Food: aside from the fact that food is essential for us to live, it just makes me happy. All the foods I have at home that I miss while at college come second to seeing my family and boyfriend in reasons why I love going home. Pizza, bagels, salmon, fresh vegetables, fruit, ice cream, everything from savory to sweet and healthy to not so healthy. I love food.
Laptop/phone: I can’t think of a day where I didn’t use both of these items. Obviously, we live in a world that had advancing technology what seems to be every day. I couldn’t get by without these. I check my email religiously, use them to connect with family and friends, write papers, check homework assignments, I meant he list goes on. Technology is a must for me.
Music: specifically rap music, my absolute favorite music genre. I am grateful for all music types EXCEPT country. With that said, music brings me so much jot. It helps me get through hard workouts, long car rides, hard times, and so much more. I love when I know the words to songs and can sing along… ask anyone who has ever been in a car with me. I have a pretty god foundation of knowledge about music and I couldn’t imagine a world without music.
Lotion: Idk about everyone else, but my skin tends to get so dry…especially in the winter. If I forget to put lotion on my face after the shower, my skin dries so damn fast. My hands also get super dry super quick when it is cold outside. I guess I would also count suntan lotion under here. I burn very easily in the summer so thank god for suntan lotion.
Laughter: I think it is safe to say that I laugh more than the average person does. I have always had this trait. My sense of humor goes along with this. Laughter never fails to make me feel better, and apparently, I have a contagious laugh so I like to be able to make other people laugh just by my laughing.
Exercise: If a day comes that I am unable to exercise, such as breaking a bone or something, I will be very sad. Although sometimes I complain like I’m sure anyone else does about going to the gym, most of the time, I am ready to go and happy to get a workout in. I like to stay healthy in this way, and I am always grateful for my youth and good health allowing me to work my hardest in the gym.
The shower: If there is one thing that I hate, it is bad hygiene. Showering is a must for me. It’s funny because as a kid, I always hated when my mom would say I had to shower. She would call up my aunt or my grandma and tell them that I wasn’t listening probably trying to embarrass me so that I would take a shower. Today though, I can’t stand the thought of not having the ability to shower.
Socks: If I could choose to have a pair of shoes or a pair of socks, I would choose socks. I prefer to be barefoot than have shoes on anyway, but I do very much love socks… especially fuzzy socks.
My car: Sadly, I recently lost my old car Karin, but I now have a new car named Francis (Francy is his nick name). I know I am blessed to be able to have my own car and I am so appreciative of this. It allows me to go where I want when I want, to and from school without having to bother someone for a ride, and wherever else I want to go.
Television: What else would I do when I’m trying to procrastinate writing a paper or doing lab report without access to TV, whether that be through Hulu, Netflix, whatever? I follow a lot of shows, and am pretty emotionally invested in most of them so idk what I would do without some of the guilty pleasures like Real House Wives of New Jersey or Keeping up with the Kardashians.
I think this is a pretty solid list. I could probably think of a lot more, but these are definitely some of the essentials for me. Hope you enjoyed reading!
